The Saskatchewan Dental Assistants ’ Association provides public protection through the regulation of competent practitioners, promotes excellence in oral health care and advocates for the health and safety of dental assistants. Insert content here

  • Ensure regulatory standards by adhering to the Regulatory Bylaws and requiring CDAC accreditation, mandatory NDAEB examinations and standardized curriculum.
  • Initiate activities to ensure there are sufficient Registered Dental Assistants to meet and protect the needs of the oral health profession and public.
  • Elevate oral health awareness through:
    • interaction with first nations and immigrant populations. (actions include Diabetes Association, Indian/Metis Association involvement, Dental Day, Northern Health & Wellness Day, oral health supplies)
    • public education regarding the sugar content in soft drinks, juice, energy drinks, vitamin water, baby foods etc. (actions include Diabetes Association, Indian/Metis Association involvement, Dental Day)
    • raise member awareness of cannabis, cannabinoids, alcohol, opiate, fentanyl usage to include the administration of naloxone.
  • Provide all dental assistants in Saskatchewan access to educational programs and courses that include the development of interpersonal and negotiation skills to facilitate professional and personal growth.
  • Initiate a mental health initiative. (actions include: mental health first aid training, funding counselling support, providing helpline contact information).
    • Team Assistance Program: Investigating a formal process for funding counselling and referring members to PAR Consulting.
    • Offering wellness programming in addictions, stress, fitness

    • Accessing resources available through the Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Ensure safe and ethical practice through licensure and encouragement to report scope of practice infractions. (actions include the circulation of the Competency Document whenever competencies change).
  • Expand workplace opportunities including long term care, public health initiatives and expanded function.
    • Investigate a local anesthetic course for Registered Dental Assistants. (actions include the identification of science pre-requisites and may include preparing a proposal to amend the Dental Disciplines Act)
    • To create educational pathways for RDAs to meet the CDSS requirements for sedation training.
  • Strengthen the relationship with the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
  • Develop a strategy to promote oral cancer screening with particular focus on public events.
  • To advise the dental aide of the educational opportunities available as well as the limitations of their scope.
  • To create awareness of the mental health of patients by encouraging training such as Mental Health First Aid.
  • SDAA is fiscally accountable.
